Adult Programming

Book Club

Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 12 noon. Anyone wanting to join in on book discussion is welcome. Bring a brown bag lunch, the library provides light refreshments. Book suggestions are welcome.

Lunch -n- Learn

Lunch-N-Learn meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11:30. Come learn something new at the WCPL. From crafts, homemade items, to cooking for the holidays, we always have something fun! Brown bag lunch and the library provides light refreshments.

The Alabama Virtual Library provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Encyclopedia Alabama is like a traditional print encyclopedia with its emphasis on authoritative content based on sound scholarship; the edited entries are written by scholars and experts from across the globe. But the online format makes it a modern reference tool offering video, audio, graphics, and hyperlinks. The site launches with more than 500 articles, 2,000 images and four hours of video clips. New content will be added on a weekly basis–more than 5,000 potential articles have been identified and that list continues to grow.

Kahn Academy

Description:
Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2006 by educator Salman “Sal” Khan with the aim of providing a “free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere”. Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We’ve also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
